Designer-inspired perfumes

ARE THESE REAL BRAND FRAGRANCES?

L
K

We create blends inspired by brand fragrances, upholding the same high-quality standards, in order to bring our customers an affordable alternative to their favorite designer perfumes. We are in no way affiliated with the mentioned brands.

WHY ARE THEY SO AFFORDABLE? DO THEY HAVE THE SAME QUALITY AS BRAND PERFUMES?

L
K

By eliminating unnecessary packaging, advertising, and prestige pricing that designer brands do, we managed to focus all our efforts on the quality of the fragrance and on delivering the exact same luxury scent, for a fraction of the price. For more information about our pricing check the transparent pricing section.

HOW LONG WILL A FRAGRANCE BOTTLE LAST?

L
K

This depends only on your usage habits. On average a 50ml bottle, used one time a day, lasts about 2 to 3 months.

Yes. Zayya perfumes comprise a 30% perfume oil-to-base mixture – giving a long-lasting fragrance.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EAU DE COLOGNE, EAU DE TOILETTE, EAU DE PARFUM AND PARFUM?

L
K

These terms refer to the strength of the fragrance, or more specifically, to how much high-grade alcohol and/or water has been added to the fragrance oils. PARFUM (usually the most concentrated form you can buy) typically has 22% – 30% fragrance oil dissolved in alcohol. Any mixture with a lower proportion of oil to alcohol is an Eau (water).

Eau de Cologne: (3% – 5% perfume oil)
Eau de Toilette: (4% – 8% perfume oil)
Eau de Parfum: (8% – 18% perfume oil)
PARFUM: (22% – 30% perfume oil)

At Zayya we use international standards to enable us to classify our 50ml perfumes as a PARFUM.

WHY DO FRAGRANCES SMELL DIFFERENT ON DIFFERENT PEOPLE?

L
K

Everything from diets, skin types, genes, hair color, stress, hormonal changes, medication, and even the lifestyle we lead can affect the way a perfume smells on us. PH levels (amount of acidity in our skin) also vary slightly from person to person. Our levels of PH will determine how each ingredient in a perfume will react with our skin.

People with dry skin usually find their perfume lasts a shorter time than those with oily skin, as oily skin has more natural moisture for the perfume oils to cling to. It is important not to purchase a perfume because we read about it in a magazine advert or smelt it on someone. We have to try it on our skin to experience how the perfume reacts with our body chemistry.

DOES A FRAGRANCE LAST LONGER ON MOIST OR DRY SKIN?

L
K

Perfumes smell at its best when worn on moisturized skin. The warmth of one’s body enables the fragrance to warm thereby releasing its true scent. Without the necessary oils to hold perfumes it can even misrepresent the true experience of the different notes of the perfume. Seal moisture into your skin by applying hand and body lotion before applying your fragrance.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY FRAGRANCE LAST LONGER ON MY SKIN?

L
K

Perfume oils evaporate faster on dry skin. The best way to make a perfume last longer is to use a body lotion or cream. You can also apply perfumes to your hair, which is said to hold perfume longer than skin.

Also, apply your fragrance low on the body at the back of your knees, as well as behind your ears and on your neck, so that the scent rises and you won’t lose it as quickly. It is also generally applied to your pulse points inside your wrists, elbow areas, the inner center of your arm, shoulders, cleavage, below the adam’s apple, behind your ears, and torso.

WHAT IS PERFUME LAYERING?

L
K

Many people define perfume layering as using more than one form of the same perfume, that is, using the fragrance over the matching body lotion or fragrance spritz.

What your typical perfumist means by the term is quite different, and involves applying more than one perfume at the same time to create an entirely new fragrance.

Experiment with our affordable perfumes and create your own unique fragrance.

Remember that applying any fragrance directly on any material/clothing could spoil it.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CHANGE PERFUMES ACCORDING TO DIFFERENT SEASONS, OCCASIONS AND MOODS?

L
K

Perfumes are described in a musical figure of speech as having three sets of ‘notes’, making the harmonious scent accord. The notes unfold over time, with the immediate impression of the top note leading to the deeper middle notes, and the base notes gradually appearing as the final stage. These notes are created carefully with knowledge of the evaporation process of the fragrance.

Top notes: The scents that are perceived immediately upon application of a perfume are called top notes. The top notes consist of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly. They form a person’s initial impression of a perfume. Top notes are also referred to as the head notes.

Middle notes: This is when the scent of perfume comes forward just before the top notes dissipate. The middle note compounds form the “heart” or main body of a perfume and act to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes, which become more pleasant with time. They are also called the “heart notes”.

Base notes: These are the scent of a perfume that appears close to the departure of the middle notes. The base and middle notes together are the main theme of a perfume. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a fragrance. Compounds of this class of scents are typically rich and “deep” and are usually not perceived until 30 minutes after application.

HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT PERFUME FOR MYSELF?

L
K

The best way is by testing a perfume on your own skin and not making a buying decision when experiencing it from a piece of paper or someone else’s skin. Your true fragrance experience will emerge as it uniquely develops with the PH-balance of your own skin.

A great way to start your fragrance journey is with Zayya Discovery Sets.

HOW MUCH PERFUME SHOULD I WEAR?

L
K

Less is better. Your perfume should never dominate you; rather re-apply after a few hours.

A light fresh floral fragrance is always suitable for spring and summer seasons. Increased body temperature will also increase the smell experience of a perfume as the scent becomes stronger.

During autumn and winter the opposite happens. Build your fragrance wardrobe. Choose fragrances to suit your moods and the occasions.

WHY CAN'T I SMELL MY PERFUME AFTER I HAVE WORN IT FOR A WHILE?

L
K

After a few days of using the same perfume, you become used to it and may not be able to smell the scent as well anymore. The scent is still there and can be smelt by others. A good idea is to build your own perfume wardrobe with different perfumes so that you can alternate between seasons, moods, occasions, and day and evening wear. Using more than one perfume for different reasons and seasons will eliminate this problem.

CAN A PERFUME INFLUENCE MOODS?

L
K

Yes, research shows that about 75% of our emotions are generated by what we smell. Use your favorite fragrance to uplift your mood, and spirit or to set a romantic aura around yourself. You also might want to wear a different fragrance from boardroom to bedroom.

CAN SPICY FOOD AFFECT THE SCENT OF A PARFUM?

L
K

No, the scent of a fragrance does not change. Spicy food can change the odour of the skin, thereby affecting the overall odour effect of a fragrance.

CAN PERFUMES LEAVE STAINS ON CLOTHES?

L
K

It is not recommended to spray perfumes directly on clothes because some fabrics may stain. Always apply your fragrance products before dressing.

WHERE AND HOW CAN I APPLY MY PERFUME?

L
K

Apply directly to your pulse points: Inside the wrist, behind the ears, at the temples, the back of the neck, and the cleavage area. Perfume rises, so don’t overlook your legs, knees, thighs, feet, and ankles.

Spraying gives a more even distribution. When dabbed, drops of fragrance can go to waste.

PLEASE NOTE that one should never rub a fragrance-simply spray and leave to dry.

HOW CAN I PRESERVE MY PERFUME AND HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

L
K

A perfume can keep its scent and potency for years, although the color may change. Don’t assume that that means the quality of the perfume has changed: Perfume is a living substance whose raw ingredients are constantly evolving. Certain storage conditions will ensure the lasting quality of the perfume: The ideal storage conditions are room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Do not place near extreme heat or light. Extreme heat may cause a fragrance to oxidize, to change colour or change its smell. When transporting your fragrances, keep them in a cool place to prevent exposure to excessive heat. Heat builds quickly inside a vehicle. Liquids expand and contract with temperature changes. Excessive heat may cause the bottles to break.
