Candle Care & Safety

Your candle is made to fill your space with beautiful fragrance, warmth, and atmosphere. To enjoy the best scent throw, burn time, and performance, please follow the care and safety guidelines below.

Storage

Store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Heat, humidity, UV light, and sudden temperature changes can affect the wax and fragrance ingredients, and may cause discolouration over time.

Candle Care

Important guidance for safe, beautiful burning

For the best burn, light your candle for 2 to 4 hours at a time. This allows a full, even wax pool to form, which helps maximise scent throw and prevents tunnelling.

Fragrance performance usually builds as the wax pool forms, and the scent is often at its best after around 1 hour of burning.

After each burn, gently re-centre the wick(s) while the wax is still soft. Then allow the wax to cool and fully set before relighting. This helps your candle continue to burn evenly.

Our candles are made with advanced self-trimming wicks, designed to naturally shorten as the candle burns. Before relighting, remove any light carbon build-up from the tip of the wick.

If the wick has not reduced naturally, trim the wick(s) to approximately 1 cm before lighting. Always remove wick trimmings and any debris from the wax before relighting.

This will help to:

  • reduce sooting
  • improve burn time
  • support even heat distribution
  • maximise scent throw

Please do not burn:

  • a standard-size candle for longer than 4 hours at a time
  • a smaller votive candle for longer than 2 to 3 hours at a time

Safety

  • Please follow these safety steps every time you burn your candle:
  • Remove all outer packaging before lighting.
  • Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface.
  • Keep away from draughts and flammable materials.
  • Always burn the candle within sight.
  • Keep away from children and animals.
  • Never move a lit candle.
  • Snuff the flame to extinguish it. Do not blow it out.
  • Do not burn the last 1 to 1.5 cm of wax, as excessive heat may crack the glass.
  • Trim wick(s) to 1 cm before each burn to reduce sooting and overheating.
  • Never exceed 4 hours of burn time.

Candle FAQ

How long do your candles last?

The estimated burn time for each candle is listed on the relevant product page. Our signature wax blend and carefully selected wicks are designed to offer a generous burn time when used correctly. For best results, trim and centre the wick(s), stay within the recommended burn times, and keep candles away from draughts.

How strong is the scent?

The short answer: strong. The fuller answer depends on a few important factors. Our wax, fragrance, and wick combination is designed to deliver excellent scent throw and a beautiful fragrance experience. A few things affect how strong a candle smells in your space:

Candle size matters: Larger candles generally give a stronger scent throw than smaller candles.

Wick count matters: Multi-wick candles create more heat and typically release a fuller, more noticeable fragrance than smaller single-wick candles.

Room size matters: If you want a strong, consistent scent that fills a room, a good guide is one standard candle (200 g) per 10 sqm of space. If you prefer a softer scent, use fewer candles. Large open-plan spaces or double-volume rooms may need multiple larger candles for noticeable fragrance.

Burn time matters: Burning a candle in short bursts (around an hour or less) usually gives less scent, can cause tunnelling, and may shorten the life of the candle.
For the fragrance to diffuse properly, the wax pool needs to liquefy and become hot enough to release fragrant vapour into the air.
For best results, burn for 2 to 4 hours at a time. Scent is often most noticeable around the 1 to 2 hour mark.

Scent fatigue is real: When you become used to a fragrance in your home, you may stop noticing it as strongly. Rotating scents and getting a little fresh air can help reset your senses.

My new candle looks uneven inside the glass. Is this a defect?

No — this is not a defect. Wax naturally reacts to temperature changes, and this can sometimes create what is commonly called a “wet spot” (a visible patch against the glass).

This is purely cosmetic and does not affect candle performance. It tends to happen less in warmer months and is more common in colder weather. In many cases, it improves with use or when the surrounding temperature warms, allowing the wax to expand.

What happens if I burn my candle for longer than recommended?

Please do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.

Extended burn times can create excessive heat, especially if the wick becomes too long, which is a safety risk. It can also cause the candle to use wax and fragrance too quickly, reducing both burn time and scent performance.

Burning for longer than recommended may also cause the glass to crack. The same risk applies if the candle is burned below the last 1 to 1.5 cm of wax.

To help maintain even heat distribution, always re-centre the wick(s) between burns while the wax is still soft.
